The Seven Dwarfs are a group of seven dwarfs that live in a tiny cottage and work in the nearby mines. Snow White happens upon their house after being told by the Huntsman to flee from the Queen’s kingdom.
The Seven Dwarfs return home and immediately notice someone has sneaked in because the house has been cleaned. During their loud discussion, they discover the sleeping Snow White. She wakes up and explains to them what happened.
The Dwarfs take pity on her, saying: “If you will keep house for us, and cook, make beds, wash, sew, and knit, and keep everything clean and orderly, then you can stay with us, and you shall have everything that you want.” They warn her to be careful when alone at home and to not let anyone in while they are delving into the mountains.
When the Queen, disguised as an old peddler, ties a colorful, silk bodice onto Snow White, it causes her to faint. The Seven Dwarfs return just in time and Snow White is saved when the Dwarfs cut the lace.
When the Queen dresses as a comb seller, she gives Snow White a poisoned comb, but the Seven Dwarfs save her again. The Queen then appears disguised as a farmer’s wife and gives Snow White a poisoned apple, which she consumes and seemingly dies.
This time, the Seven Dwarfs are unable to revive the girl, because they can’t find the source of Snow White’s poor health, and, assuming that she is dead, they place her in a glass coffin.
After some time has passed, a Prince traveling through the land sees Snow White where he strides to her coffin and instantly falls in love with her upon being enchanted by her beauty.
As the Prince transports her body back to his castle, her coffin is hit hard and a large piece of apple in her throat is released and thus revives her. The prince marries Snow White.

HOW TO REMEMBER THE NAMES OF THE SEVEN DWARFS?
Transmitted by the Brothers Grimm and popularized worldwide by Disney, the tale of Snow White is anchored in the depths of our imagination. But when it comes to flawlessly listing the names of the Seven Dwarfs, things are not that simple.
The story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs did not come directly from the brilliant mind of Walt Disney, contrary to many popular beliefs. This tale, which delights young and old, comes from ancient Germanic traditions, collected and put into shape by the Brothers Grimm at the beginning of the 19th century.
In this initial form, the beautiful Snow White, pursued by the hatred of the Evil Queen, is already accompanied by the Seven Dwarfs, who play a vital role in the plot, but the unfortunate ones were then devoid of names. It is to Walt Disney that they owe them since, in the 1937 masterpiece, it is now possible to distinguish them in this way. Each name describes a character trait.
AN EASY TRICK
After going through lists of dozens of names, the choice of Mickey’s dad ended up on a series of seven, which has become universally known today. However, in their French version, listing them without error and in full is always tricky unless you employ a mnemonic trick.
It is enough to remember the following short sentence: “To play almost alone, you become cranky”. Each word contains one or more of the first letters of the dwarf’s name or even corresponds to a first name:
- A: Atchoum
- JO: Happy
- PR: Prof
- S: Dumb
- T: Shy
- D: Sleeper
- GRINCHEUX: Grumpy
