Higher doses of 6 grams per day have been used in two studies without promising results.

The study that reported beneficial effects of D-aspartic acid on sperm quantity and quality used a dose of 2.6 grams per day for 90 days (8).
In sports, it intervenes by promoting muscle development, reducing fatigue, participating in gluconeogenesis, and the formation of glutamic acid or glutamate.
Some of the foods with the highest content of aspartic acid:
- Animal origin: meat, chicken, fish, eggs, and dairy.
- Plant origin: legumes, sugar cane, molasses, nuts, cereals, seeds, asparagus, spinach, pumpkin, potatoes, carrots, aubergines, peppers, celery, lettuce, chicory, garlic, onions, and fruits.
- Aspartic acid combines with the amino acid phenylalanine to form the sweetener aspartame.
